Electric Vehicles: where does the world stand?

Letter # 74

All of us have read that EV is THE NEXT BIG THING. Today, I write in ET, on where the world stands on the whole EV debate, in layman language.

We look at questions like: How large is the industry already globally? Where will it likely be over the next decade? How is the battery tech debate shaping up? We then move to India, and how different companies are managing to innovate despite the seemingly large constraints.

Lastly, we boil it down to ‘how to play it!’. Any technological disruption leaves a lot of unsuccessful players in its wake. The EV game will amplify this notion manifold, given that a disruption at this large a scale (global automotive revenues: USD3.5t) or with this crucial a product (vehicles instead of cameras or mobile phones) has not been attempted in living memory.
